REAL TOWN BUSINESS.
Inspired by the graphic design work of local activist and artist Emory Douglas, the (mostly) text-based billboard solicits phrases from locals to say how their goals relate to the larger community of Oakland with the fill-in-the-blank phrase “ __________ is REAL. TOWN. BUSINESS.” This proposal seeks to use the billboard as a bulletin board and social platform for Oakland to see itself. REAL. TOWN. BUSINESS sees billboard spaces as a mechanism to forge a powerful and inspirational relationship with all the people in Oakland who are loyal to the soil.
